My mother’s older brother, David Harrison Linforth, enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve on 10 Dec 1942. In Sept 1944, Ensign Linforth reported for temporary duty, as a student pilot, to Naval Air Station, Miami, Florida. His entire crew and aircraft were reported missing 12 October 1944 off the Florida Keys. He was 21 years old. |

On 5 Sept 1944 he accepted appointment and executed oath of office as Ensign, A-V(N), U.S. Naval Reserve to rank from 1 Sept. He reported to Naval Air Training Center, Pensacola, Florida for temporary active duty involving flying. On 6 Sept 1944 he was detached and reported 8 Sept 1944 to Naval Air Station , Miami, Florida for temporary duty involving flying under instruction. He was reported missing 12 October 1944. |
